Créme de la Créme NOW OPEN in downtown Frederick, MD
Créme de la Créme, offering a wide range of French and Italian influenced tableware, furniture, linens and gifts, opened its doors Thursday, June 9 at 207 North Market Street in historic downtown Frederick. It is the company’s first location in Maryland.
The new location has 3,500 square feet of retail space. “We are excited to begin a new chapter with Créme de la Créme and bring our concept to Frederick, with its vibrant downtown scene and thriving retail community,” said Tara Wegdam, co-owner and buyer.
“Everyone I’ve met has been so friendly and helpful,” said Tara Wegdam, who has been working to get the store merchandised to open earlier than originally anticipated. “We have experienced an exceptionally warm welcome even prior to opening our doors and look forward to meeting many more friends and neighbors in the coming weeks,” Wegdam remarked.
The Frederick Créme de la Créme will be open Monday through Thursday from 11-7, Friday and Saturday from 11-8 and Sundays from 11-6. The store can be reached at 240-651-1714.
The Middleburg, Virginia based family owned business combines Ben and Tara Wegdam’s passion for special one-of-a-kind products with a love of European art and design. The company, founded in 2000, is a part of the West Federal Retail group and employs approximately 20 people across three retail locations.

John Derian’s home goods empire reaches far and wide—in addition to the four John Derian stores he owns in New York and Massachussetts, his products are sold by more than 600 retailers worldwide, including Neiman Marcus, ABC, and Gump’s in the United States; Conran and Liberty in the UK; and Astier de Villatte in Paris. It all started with his now-iconic collectible plates decoupaged with 19th-century artwork sourced from old and rare books, a process that credited him with elevating the decoupage technique into fine art. Over the past 25 years, the brand has expanded greatly to include home and general design gifts and products.
Now, for the first time ever, comes the book John Derian fans have been waiting for. Culled from the thousands of images that have appeared in his biannual collections, here is an astoundingly beautiful assortment of more than 400 full-bleed images in their original form. From intensely colored flowers and birds to curious portraits, hand-drawn letters, and breathtaking landscapes, the best of John Derian is here. The result is an oversized object of desire, a work of art in and of itself, that brilliantly walks the line between commerce and art, and that is destined to become the gift book of the season.
Our first store opened in Middleburg, VA, a perfectly quaint town for the vibe and aesthetic that Crème de la Crème is all about. You will not come upon a Starbucks or McDonald's in a walk around the tidy and tiny streets of Middleburg. A guarded, private village about 40 miles west of Washington, DC; visitors can get a glimpse of the country life by visiting local stores, wineries and taking in the beautiful scenery.
