Since 1946, the Valdrome company has dominated the production of the authentic "Provençal style", perpetuated by a thousand years of tradition. The secret of these "Indiennes" (Indian Canvas) or "Toiles des Indes" (Indies' Canvases) were discovered by French explorers, such as Jean de Valdrome, in India and brought back to France. Valdrome learned how to produce these beautiful printed fabrics shawls and scarves which, today, are an important part of Provençal culture.

Valdrome prides itself in keeping their indienne traditions alive and only utilizes the highest quality tools - pure mercerized cotton, wool serge, and water resistant color dyes. The basic colors of Provencal fabrics are the red (which comes from madder), blue (from the indigo plant), and the yellow (from plant sap).
