Spending more time indoors

As the daylight gets shorter and cooler, we naturally will spend more time indoors. Things I like to do to make time inside comfortable and interesting . . .

As the daylight gets shorter and cooler, we naturally will spend more time indoors. Things I like to do to make time inside comfortable and interesting.

-Decorate with lamps. Pick ones that you like and will add dimension to your room. The low light is more in sync with the natural light this time of year. I love a well-lit house but will always use a dimmer combined with lamps to create ambiance.

- Burn a candle. The best way to change the feel of a room is to add a scent. This can also be in keeping with the season. I like to mix things up a little so adding something like minted basil -our signature candle to fall festival or Cyranos, Trudon to Fresh cut Fir will give depth to your scent. It will disperse quickly and stronger so extinguish before you would if burning one scent. If the scent gets to strong blow out the candle first before opening windows and doors. When hit with a draft, candles will make smoke

-Seasonal pillows and throws. Add seasonal pillows to sofas and chair. It is so fun to pick these out because there are so many to choose from and 4 pillows and a throw can instantly redecorate your room.

-Craft. I have lots of things that I plan do that in the summer months there is too much going to do. I like to decoupage match boxes with vintage stamps and paint with Farrow and Ball paint samples that I try on the walls. I also like to papier Mache.

-Plan bigger improvements. As I was frantically making everything perfect for our house guests, I realized that the hallway and upstairs bed rooms needed to be repainted. I could not believe that I had not noticed before. Looking back, it has been 7 years and lots of use so it makes sense. As we spend sit in the dark starting at 6:30 pm and am going to have my colors chosen for painting after the holidays.
